Although Whistler gets all the coverage, there are other prime spots for downhillers in Western Canada. Nestled at the edge of the Purcell Mountains in southeastern British Columbia, just three hours by car from Calgary, Alberta, Panorama Mountain Village’s new bike park is as good as gravity gets, with nearly 1,200 feet of vertical. Ride Panorama’s high-speed quad to rail any one of 18 trails, which range in scope from beginner bombers to super-techy rock drops and teeth-chattering descents. The park also includes a bikercross course, dirt/stunt/drop practice park and freeride trails. Expansion plans are set for summer 2004. 250-342-6941; www.panoramaresort.com.

The Price Tag: One adult lift ticket goes for $19. At the Pine Inn, open from June to September, riders can opt for the $76 Ride-and-Stay package, which includes two nights of accommodation and lift tickets (per person, based on double occupancy).
