Roll up your green sleeves and join the ever-growing league of environmentally conscientious globetrotters who pay to volunteer for good eco causes. STRP has received accolades from afar thanks to its incredible success at turning the tide for the endangered olive ridley sea turtles of Punta Banco, Costa Rica. Since 1998, volunteers have tagged and protected more than 1,000 adult turtles, resulting in more than 80,000 hatchlings released to the sea. The presence of volunteers and their educational effort have helped reduce poaching from nearly 100 percent to under 20 percent. Sure, your digs are modest, but your sweat is honest and the satisfaction index is off the charts. And heck, you’re in Costa Rica!
The Price Tag: One week, $250 per person (includes two daily meals). 011-506-241-5227; www.tortugamarina.org.
